Alagon D’antique Hotel & Spa in Ho Chi Minh City claims to be a four star hotel. And, it is. We can find only one fault with it. The perfumed oil that overtakes every inch of the hotel apart from the top floor pool area. This leaves us a bit suspicious. What smell are they trying to hide?
If you are aiming to explore Ho Chi Minh City for a few days, Alagon D’antique Hotel & Spa might just be situated in the perfect spot. In District 1, within walking distance from the city’s sightseeing spots and close to the Backpacker Street.
We are staying in one of the cheapest rooms, with a window facing a narrow alley, but are more than satisfied. The bed is super comfy with smooth linens that hugs your body. The room is somewhat small, but the uncluttered colonial style makes up for it. The bathroom only fits one at a time, but who wants a crowd anyway?
There is a strong smell as one enters the hotel and the room. We find a container with perfumed oil on the floor in the hotel room. We remove it and put it in the corridor. One of us, the one with all the perfume allergies, can actually stand the scent. The not allergic one, can not. Strange. It all depends on the scent. This scent is however present in the hotel overall, apart from the breakfast room and the roooftop pool. It is strong in the corridors by the lifts and in the hotel lobby. They are trying to hide a stench coming from some unidentified place. I really don’t know which smell is worse. However, if the oil is removed from your room, the smell is soon gone. But, if you like perfume, you’re in for a treat!
The staff at the front desk it utterly kind and helpful. This must be the fastest check in ever. And there is no problem in booking a tour late on the evening before the tourdate. Our request in printing 10 documents for our trip is met with no problems. The staff is polite, correct and hearty without being intrusive. The best.
The breakfast is exquisite. All you could ask for. And more. The presentation is fabulous. The staff attentive and fast. Though a bit crowded, the room can take it. The sound level is low and there is never a queue. Not even to the egg station. Top notch.
