Portugal, Cascais: Hotel Baia

After our highly intense and three week long trip to China, we need to unwind and get some perspective on things. We find the best place to do this: at Hotel Baia in Cascais, Portugal! What a chill hotel and such a picturesque place Cascais is. We highly recommend both Cascais and Hotel Baia.

We book directly through the hotel’s own website and get a seaview room with balcony for only €420 for three nights. That is a bargain considering the location of the hotel: beachfront and still in the middle of everything.

Hotel Baia, Cascais

The room is light and bright, simply, but tastefully furnished in white and blue colours. Gives a marine feeling this close to the sea. A balcony with two plastic chairs and a table facing the square in front of the hotel and the beach.

A desk, a chair, a luggage rack and a wardrobe with drawers and extra pillows. There is a safety box in there too, but you have to pay a deposit at the front desk to be able to use it.

The bathroom has a huge sink area and spacious shower. No beauty amenities but some shampoo and a shower cap.

The rooftop terrace has a bar and an indoor pool. And a superb view of the square, the beach and the harbour. Sunbeds, but just two umbrellas, and free pool towels at the bar to trade for the plastic card you recieve at check in. You get the card back when you give the towels back, and don’t lose it or you’ll have to pay a fine.

The Blue Bar comes with cozy lounge sofas and is a popular place at weekends efter 6 pm when they have a DJ.

The breakfast is served in the restaurant at the first floor. There are tables on the outdoor terrace, but beware of the seagulls munching away at your food if you leave the table unattended!

Huge restaurant with outdoor seating

The buffet breakfast is fresh and has something for everyone. Great choice of youghurts, fruits, bread, egg and warm food such as bacon and sausages. A huge plus for the large trays to carry all your food to your table at once instead of running back and forth a hundred times. Convenience before elegance every time, I say!

Great buffet breakfast

We cannot find a single fault with Hotel Baia Cascais and highly recommend it. Just around the corner you’ll find small supermarkets and all the bars, restaurants and shopping of the historic centre. An easy walk of five minutes gets you straight to the train station.

GetYourGuide has a number of day trips to Cascais from Lisbon if you just want to spend a few hours here.
